TROPIC THUNDER took out the weekend
in top spot with a respectable 26 million. It's current total sits
at 37.3 million after five days. The opening is a little soft, and
it may be touch and go if it makes its 92 million budget back at
the domestic box office.
The Dark Knight comes in an impressive
second with 16.8 million, taking its total box office to 471.4 million.
This is a great result for the Caped Crusader, especially with the
two new openers this weekend.
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS didn't fare
so well, opening in third with 15.5 million. Reviews for this weren't
so great and only time will tell if it will continue to do well
at the box office.
MAMMA MIA! is another great story,
continuing to earn respectable figures each weekend. Its current
total stands at 116.4 million against a budget of 52 million.
THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS has become a
profitable venture after accumulating another 10 million this weekend.
With a small 27 million budget, the film is sitting extremely well
at the moment.
THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR
is limping closer and closer to 100 million. It took in another
8.6 million this weekend to bring its total to 86.6 million, well
short of its 145 million budget.
The total box office for 15-17 August
2008 at the North American Box Office came to 114.6 million.
