9. Mamma Mia! $4,303,000
10. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor $4,069,000
11. Vicky Cristina Barcelona $3,003,000
12. The Rocker $2,750,000

Some of the heat came out of the box office this weekend despite a number of new openers and decent-to-strong returns for most of the holdovers from previous weekends.

TROPIC THUNDER was the surprise, coming in at top spot despite losing that title on Friday to THE HOUSE BUNNY.

THE DARK KNIGHT is closing in on 490 million and should reach 500 million shortly.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS is the only other interesting story as it takes a dive in its second weekend. This title will not live up to its illustrious predecessors (at least in terms of box office).

The total box office for 22-24 August 2008 at the North American Box Office came to 88.3 million.
