The box office is truly starting to slow down in
this post-summer period, only raking in half the amount of revenue
it did a fortnight ago.
Nicholas Cage is back on the big screen
with BANGKOK DANGEROUS. It just took out top spot on Friday with
2.7 million although TROPIC
THUNDER is right behind it with 2.1 million. There's a good
chance that the latter film will take out top spot for the fourth
straight weekend, which strange to say, puts it in company with
THE DARK KNIGHT
in terms of consecutive weekends at the top of the box office. However,
that's where the similarity ends! Batman and company crossed the
500 million mark last weekend, and added another 1.45 million on
Friday, still clinging on to fourth spot! The film has a cumulative
total of 507 million.
Vin Diesel's new pic BABYLON AD crashed and burned,
dropping all the way down to sixth with another 1.2 million.
The other impressive notes belong
to MAMMA MIA!
and THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. They round out the top 10 in 9th and
10th spot respectively. Both films have become highly profitable,
and durable in the fickle climate that is the modern box office.
The North American box office in total
took in 13.8 million for the whole of Friday 5th September 2008.
