Here are the weekend estimates at
the North American box office this past weekend:
1 Bangkok Dangerous $7,800,000
2 Tropic Thunder
$7,500,000
3 The House Bunny $5,900,000
4 The Dark
Knight $5,715,000
5 Traitor $4,660,000
6 Babylon A.D. $4,000,000
7 Death Race $3,595,000
8 Disaster Movie $3,300,000
9 Mamma Mia!
$2,713,000
10 Pineapple Express $2,400,000
It was a fairly uninteresting weekend
at the box office, as the post-summer slump begins. The total takings
for the weekend were only half of what they were a month ago as
blockbusters start to lose speed and not so big movies make their
debuts.
Nicolas Cage is back on the screen
in BANGKOK DANGEROUS taking out number one spot, but it couldn't
break the 10 million barrier, opening only to 7.8 million. He's
got a lot of films coming out next year so hopefully one of those
will do better. This film had a budget of 45 million so it could
have started better.
Vin Diesel's new film BABYLON AD slumped
to sixth in its second weekend. The film has not been well received
and its box office seems to be following the same pattern. The film
currently sits with 17.1 million.
Most of the other films seemed to
stay in the same position that they were last week. THE DARK KNIGHT
is again worth mentioning, now reaching 512 million in total box
office. It will likely finish its run with between 520-530 million.
The North American box office took
in a total of 51.6 million for the weekend 5-7 September 2008.
