The numbers at the North American box office for
this past Friday increased over last Friday's take by around 2.5
million dollars. There were a number of new openers on Friday which
brought respectable business.
The number one film for Friday is
EAGLE EYE, the
new thriller starring man-of-the-moment Shia LaBeouf. The effective
trailers and star power pushed this film to 9.8 million on Friday
and it should see a decent return this weekend.
The number two film is another new opener NIGHTS
IN RODANTHE, the new Richard Gere and Diane Lane romantic film.
It didn't set the world on fire with its 4.8 million return on Friday,
and we'll have to see how it does over the rest of the weekend to
get an indication of how it will fare long term.
The number three film is FIREPROOF,
another new opener from indie distributor Samuel Goldwyn and starring
80's teen sensation Kirk Cameron. This will likely disappear quickly
as the reviews weren't good but that isn't likely to matter as its
2.3 million Friday take has already quadrupled its half million
budget.
Returning films include LAKEVIEW TERRACE
(2m, 20m total), BURN
AFTER READING (1.6m, 40m total), MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL (1.2m,
11.9m total), IGOR (1.2m, 10m total), and RIGHTEOUS KILL (1m, 32m
total).
At the bottom of the list if Spike
Lee's new war drama MIRACLE AT ST ANNA which took in just under
a million on Friday. This could be costly as the budget for this
film was 45 million.
The North American box office in total
took in 25.8 million for the whole of Friday 26th September 2008.
