EAGLE EYE blasted its way in to first
place with an impressive 29.2 million, the first strong opener in
a number of weekends. The combination of star Shia LaBeouf and director
DJ Caruso is now officially a hit (they also opened the film DISTURBIA
to an impressive opening last year so we'll be seeing these two
make films together for some time.
The number two film is the romantic
drama NIGHTS IN RODANTHE starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. The
film had a decent opening with 13.5 million.
Last week's number one champ LAKEVIEW
TERRACE lands in third place with another 7 million. The film is
now in profit with its current take of 25 million against a budget
of 20 million.
The number four film is an interesting
story. FIREPROOF only cost half a million to make but its already
proving to be an incredible profitable title with 6.5 million in
the coffers from this past weekend alone.
The Coen Brothers BURN AFTER READING
earned another 6 million this weekend, proving their profitability
as the film has taken in 45.5 million against a budget of 37 million.
THE
DARK KNIGHT is now out of the top 10, only taking in another
1.6 million in 13th place. The Caped Crusader has now taken in a
massive 524.4 million and should finish with around 530 million.
The North American box office took
in a total of 87.8 million for the weekend 26-28 September 2008.
