The money rolled in last Friday but some of the
new films that did it leave a lot to be desired. You know you're
in interesting territory when the number one film is called BEVERLEY
HILLS CHIHUAHUA. Yes, that's the number one film for Friday, taking
in an estimated 7.8 million.
The number two film is last week's
champ EAGLE EYE
which took in another 5.5 million. This is looking to be a fairly
respectable win for Shia LaBeouf and company.
The other openers on Friday included
NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST (4.4M) and AN AMERICAN CAROL
(1.2M). Neither one has set the box office alight although you have
to wonder in the case of the latter film how many more spoofs Leslie
Nielsen and David Zucker can pull out of the hat.
Returning films include NIGHTS IN
RONDANTHE (2.4M), LAKEVIEW TERRACE (1.35M), FIREPROOF (1.2M), and
BURN AFTER
READING (1.2M). FIREPROOF is the interesting film only in that
it has turned in to an incredibly profitable title (9.7M from a
0.5M budget!) and that it still landed in the top 10.
The North American box office in total
took in 27.8 million for the whole of Friday 3rd October 2008.
