The numbers were a little down on
last week, despite a number of new openers, including a new Ridley
Scott film and another Blair Witch-style offerring.
The number one film on Friday was
QUARANTINE, another film to follow along the lines of The Blair
Witch Project. It took in an estimated 5.35 million on Friday and
will likely to be a big win for distributors Sony and Screen Gems
as the budget was only 12 million.
The number two film is last weekend's
number one champ, BEVERLEY HILLS CHIHUAHUA. The Disney flick took
in another 4.5 million to take its total to 39.5 million.
Moving on to more serious fare, Ridley
Scott's BODY OF
LIES sadly debuts in number three position with an estimated
4.35 million. This will need excellent word of mouth to see a good
return as the budget was 70 million.
EAGLE
EYE took out number four spot, still churning through some decent
numbers. It took in an estimated 3.2 million and now currently sits
with 62.3 million, closing in on its 80 million budget.
NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST
landed in fifth spot, taking in an estimated 2.125 million. The
film has grossed 16.4 million and is a big winner as its production
budget was only 10 million.
Rounding out the top 10 for Friday
are the following:
THE EXPRESS - 1.5M (1.5M Total)
NIGHTS IN RODANTHE - 1.45M (29.2M Total)
APPALOOSA - 1M (8.57M Total)
THE DUCHESS
- 1M (3.3M Total)
FIREPROOF - 1M (14M Total)
The North American box office in total
took in 25.5 million for the whole of Friday 10th October 2008.
