Here are the weekend estimates from the North American
Box Office this past weekend:
1. Beverly Hills Chihuahua $17,511,000
2. Quarantine $14,200,000
3. Body of Lies
$13,120,000
4. Eagle Eye
$11,015,000
5. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist $6,500,000
6. The Express $4,731,000
7. Nights in Rodanthe $4,610,000
8. Appaloosa $3,340,000
9. The Duchess
$3,322,000
10. City of Ember $3,200,000
That Chihuahua lands in top spot for a second weekend
in a row. The low cost Disney flick BEVERLEY HILLS CHIHUAHUA has
become a decent money earner, proving that the Mouse House knows
how to pump out the product for the kids.
Our number two film is the latest Blair-Witch style
exercise, QUARANTINE. The film earned an impressive 14.2 million
which against its 12 million budget puts it already in the black.
Sadly, Ridley Scott's BODY OF LIES, the only big
serious film starring Hollywood stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Russell
Crowe opened in third spot. Given its 13.1 million opening, it will
have to work hard to earn its 70 million budget back.
EAGLE EYE is still doing decent business, pulling
in another 11 million. The film has pulled in 70 million so far
and is only 10 million away from recovering its budget domestically.
The remainder of the top 10 played
like last week, save THE DUCHESS which entered the top 10 after
it added another 1000 screens to its venue list.
The North American box office took
in a total of 87.8 million for the weekend 10-12 October 2008.
