The Box Office numbers came tumbling
down on Friday compared to the previous Friday, only generating
a third of the business.
SAW V jumped in to first place with
an estimated 3.1 million after debuting in second last Friday. This
is of course not surprising given that Friday was Halloween but
it still represents a massive drop from its double digit opening
performance.
CHANGELING lands in second spot with
an estimated 2.3 million. This is a decent result for the Angelina
Jolie starrer which has been in limited release for its first week.
This film was directed by Clint Eastwood, whose films tend to have
more gradual releases than the Hollywood blockbuster so this may
hang around for a while.
The dubiously titled ZACK AND MIRI
MAKE A PORNO debuts in third spot with an estimated 2.2 million.
This is the latest film from Kevin Smith so we'll keep an eye on
it to see how it goes.
The low budget releases continue with
THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY earning an estimated 1.75 million.
Another horror film trying to cash in on the Halloween rush, the
film was basically trumped by SAW V's second Friday but this one
probably didn't cost too much.
Last week's number one champ HIGH
SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR, crashed and burned to fifth spot,
earning only an estimated 1.7 million on its second Friday. Very
clearly the core base of fans for the franchise saw it on opening
weekend and there's no one left who is interested. Disney won't
be complaining though as the film is pushing 50 million which is
a decent return given that the film's budget was quite low.
The remainder of the Top 10 are holdovers
from the previous week:
THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES - 0.8M (22.1M
Total)
PRIDE & GLORY - 0.77M (9.1M Total)
MAX PAYNE -
0.75M (32.6M Total)
EAGLE EYE -
0.7M (89M Total)
BEVERLEY HILLS CHIHUAHUA - 0.67M (79.9M Total)
The North American box office in total
took in 14.8 million for the whole of Friday 31st October 2008.
