Below are the weekend estimates from
the North American Box Office this past weekend:
1. Twilight
$70,553,000
2. Quantum
Of Solace $27,400,000
3. Bolt $27,000,000
4. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa $16,000,000
5. Role Models $7,229,000
6. Changeling $2,643,000
7. High School Musical 3: Senior Year $2,006,000
8. Zack and Miri Make a Porno $1,700,000
9. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas $1,673,000
10. The Secret Life of Bees $1,275,000
The big story of the weekend is the
opening of TWILIGHT which earned twice its budget back since opening
on Friday. The romantic-vampire movie was a big hit with young teenage
girls who rushed out to see the movie over its initial frame. This
title may dwindle out quickly, but it hardly matters as it was in
the black after its first day of release.
QUANTUM OF SOLACE held on to second
position with a solid 27.4 million added to its tally. The film
has grossed 109.4 million since last weekend, which may not be a
spectacular number for a 200M budgeted film, but the foreign tally
is already at 250 million so this film has covered its costs.
BOLT was another opener this weekend,
the new CG Disney flick with the celebrity voices, opening to an
estimated 27 million. This is a solid opening.
Previous box office champ MADAGASCAR:
ESCAPE 2 AFRICA held on for an impressive 16 million in its third
weekend. The film has grossed 137 million against a 150 million
budget. This will likewise be a win for Paramount and Dreamworks.
The US Box Office took in a total
of 159.4 million for the whole of the weekend 21-23 November 2008.
