The US Box Office saw a big surge in numbers starting
with Christmas Day and continuing on Friday. Most of the films in
the Top 10 had decent returns.
The number one film is the Owen Wilson-Jennifer
Aniston comedy MARLEY AND ME. The film earned an estimated 14 million
on Friday (in addition to its 14 million from Christmas Day) and
already has an impressive total of 28 million going in to the weekend.
David Fincher's new film THE
CURIOUS CASE OF BENJIMAN BUTTON opened solidly in second with
an estimated 10.2 million. The film also earned around 12 million
on Christmas Day and has a decent two day total of 22 million.
Adam Sandler's new effort BEDTIME STORIES opened
in third with an estimated 9.8 million after taking around 11 million
on Christmas Day. Helped by the longer than normal weekend, this
film should see a decent return but its a far cry from Sandler's
other blockbusters.
Opening in fourth is VALKYRIE, the Tom Cruise World
War II film, earning an estimated 8.1 million. The film has earned
around 16 million over two days and should see a decent return for
the remainder of the weekend.
The only other opener was Frank Miller's THE SPIRIT,
which disappoints with only an estimated 2.6 million for Friday.
It has earned around 6.4 million in two days and will not reach
the stellar opening of his previous film SIN CITY.
The remaining films in the top 10 are holdovers
from the previous Friday:
YES MAN - 5.9M
SEVEN POUNDS - 4.8M
THE TALES OF DESPERAUX - 3.1M
THE
DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - 2.7M
FOUR CHRISTMASES - 1.8M
The North American box office in total
took in 63.3 million for the whole of Friday 26th December 2008.
