Friday saw a 21% decrease in box office
revenue over the previous Friday.
Tyler Perry has hit the top of the
box office yet again, this time with TYLER PERRY'S MADEA GOES TO
JAIL, earning an estimated $14.8M and easily taking top spot. These
movies have turned into a licence to print money so expect to see
more Tyler Perry in a cineplex near you in the future.
Continuing to surprise almost everyone
is this Friday's number two film TAKEN,
which grossed an estimated $3.4M and lost only a tiny 25% of its
audience. The Liam Nesson action flick has so far amassed $87M at
the US Box Office and its worldwide tally now stands at $156M. An
impressive performance to be sure.
HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU and CORALINE
settle in to third and fourth spots with an estimated $2.9M and
$2.7M respectively. Both films have posted solid numbers since opening
and have become good investments.
Crashing in to fifth spot after a
stellar opening weekend is FRIDAY THE 13TH, earning only an estimated
$2.7M and losing a horrendous 85% of its audience. The film has
earned $49.9M since opening against a $19M budget so it hardly matters
the film has crashed and burned so quickly, but still, it appears
the only people interested in the film saw it on opening weekend.
CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC did not
have a great start last weekend, but it lands in sixth spot this
Friday losing only 46% of its audience and earning an estimated
$2.3M. Word of mouth has not been good for this film, but even so,
it appears to have sufferred at the hands of HE'S JUST NOT THAT
INTO YOU taking the lion's share of the target audience.
The remaining films in the top 10
for Friday include the following: FIRED UP ($2.2M), SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
($2M), PAUL BLART: MALL COP ($1.8M) and THE INTERNATIONAL ($1.3M).
The North American box office in total
took in $36.6 million for the whole of Friday 20th February 2009.
