This Friday saw five new films enter
the Top 10; three were new openers, one was a clever re-release and
the other a wide expansion on its initial limited release.
The number one film for Friday is the
horror-comedy ZOMBIELAND which managed an impressive estimate of $9.4M.
Other new openers this Friday were THE INVENTION OF LYING which took
in an estimated $2.4M, and the Drew Barrymore-directed WHIP IT which
made an estimated $1.58M.
The interesting win, and strategically
clever re-release of the first two TOY STORY films in 3D paid off,
as the double feature raked in an estimated $3.2M and should have
a decent weekend.
Michael Moore did not make as big a
dent in the Top 10 with CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY as his previous 'documentaries'.
Taking an estimated $1.5M on wide release this Friday, the film will
only have a small total for the weekend and will need excellent word
of mouth to continue forward in any decent fashion.
Stay tuned for a more comprehensive
wrap-up of the weekend box office in North America for 2nd-4th October
2009.
The Top 10 at the North American box
office took in an estimated total of $27.6 million for the whole of
Friday 2nd October 2009.
