Friday saw a 32% decrease in box office
revenue over the previous Friday.
1. The
Twilight Saga: New Moon - $17.9M
2. The Blind Side - $16.2M
3. 2012 - $7M
4. Old Dogs - $6.8M
5. A Christmas Carol (2009) - $6.6M
6. Ninja Assassin - $5.6M
7. Planet 51 - $4.1M
8. The Fantastic Mr. Fox - $3M
9. Precious - $2.8M
10. The Men Who Stare At Goats - $0.63M
The US box office can be forgiven for
dropping this Friday after the stratospheric heights it achieved last
Friday with the opening of NEW
MOON. A number of new films entered the market this Friday, and
the performance of a returning film has surprised all.
Not unexpectedly, the new Twilight film
NEW MOON took out
top spot with an estimated $17.9 million, losing a whopping 75% of
its audience (you know, all the teenage girls who have by now seen
it!). The film will still earn over $40 million this weekend, and
it has crossed the $200 million mark after eight days of release so
no one is hurting here financially.
The big story of the weekend is the
Sandra Bullock sports drama THE BLIND SIDE, which did the unthinkable
and actually increased its audience by a huge 46% on last Friday's
numbers to earn an estimated $16.2 million. Although unlikely, the
film could potentially take out top spot after the weekend is done,
making this film a breakthrough hit, and a much needed one for its
star who also had great success with THE PROPOSAL earlier in the year.
Stay tuned for a more comprehensive
wrap-up of the weekend box office in North America for 27th-29th November
2009.
The Top 10 at the North American box
office took in an estimated total of $70.78 million for the whole
of Friday 27th November 2009.
