Denzel
Washington is back at the box office with his new film THE BOOK OF
ELI taking out top spot for Friday with an estimated $11.7 million.
This is a great start for the dour and apocalpytic-looking film and
another hit for Denzel.
After
several weeks at the top, AVATAR
descended in to second spot this Friday, with a still strong estimate
of $10.4 million. The film has made $460.8 million domestically and
will pass the domestic gross of STAR
WARS by the end of the weekend. All indications show that AVATAR
is still going strong, with demand for 3D and IMAX screenings still
up.
Director
Peter Jackson's THE
LOVELY BONES expanded on its limited run platform release to enter
third spot this Friday with an estimated $5.7 million. This would
have to be considered a disappointment, especially considering that
word of mouth is not that great and the $100 million budget.
Stay
tuned for a more comprehensive wrap-up of the weekend box office in
North America for 15-17 January 2010.
The
Top 10 at the North American box office took in an estimated total
of $42.7 million for the whole of Friday 15th January 2010.
