Overall, the US Box Office was down 14% on last weekend's gross.

DEAR JOHN became the film to take out top spot away from AVATAR this weekend with a strong $30.4 million. The romantic film started very strongly on Friday but dipped away over the course of the weekend. The fall off will hardly matter as the film only cost $25 million, all of which has now been returned.

AVATAR finally fell a spot to second place this weekend, but it still managed a strong $22.8 million to take its domestic total to $629 million. The film only dropped 27% on last weekend's gross and show's no signs of stopping. A final total in excess of $700 million is certain at this point.

The new film from TAKEN director Pierre Morel opened this weekend; FROM PARIS WITH LOVE only managed $8.15 million which does not bode well for its prospects considering the film cost $52 million to make.

EDGE OF DARKNESS fell a not-so-good 60% on last weekend, earning $6.8 million this weekend. Mel Gibson's star power has definitely fallen away, with the film having only earned $28.9 million against an $80 million budget.

The remainder of the top 12 posted modest totals as they return this weekend. THE TOOTH FAIRY is managing to hold on well considering its farcical premise. SHERLOCK HOLMES finally crossed $200 million at the domestic box office. And low budget pair THE BLIND SIDE and UP IN THE AIR continue to be profitable, particularly the former which has earned $241.5 million against a $29 million budget.

The Top 12 at the US Box Office took in a total of $99,572,618 for the whole of the weekend 5-7 February 2010.
