A
couple of big releases entered the market place on Friday, driving
up business significantly. Taking out top spot with incredible ease
was the well marketed VALENTINE'S DAY which entered that said weekend
with a strong $14.5 million. The film is looking at a $50+ million
opening weekend.
Universal's
troubled production THE WOLFMAN opened well enough on Friday with
$9.64 million, but mediocre reviews and lukewarm audience response
may inflict some harm on its long term prospects. Snapping at THE
WOLFMAN's heels was PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING
THIEF which managed a decent $9.63 million on Friday.
AVATAR
was not to be outdone pulling in another $4.5 million. Last Friday's
stellar champion DEAR JOHN plunged to fifth spot, largely because
VALENTINE'S DAY stole its audience and because it was not well received.

North America for 12-14 February 2010.
The
Top 10 at the North American box office took in an estimated total
of $47.6 million for the whole of Friday 12th February 2010.
