Tim Burton's off beat ALICE IN WONDERLAND exploded on its first day of release on Friday, earning an estimated $41 million as it took over 3D cinemas. Although reviews are mixed, Burton's track record for delivering these types of well known fantasies via his unique vision keeps paying off, with Alice exceeding expectations.

Another new film opened on Friday although you may have missed it in the wake of ALICE IN WONDERLAND; BROOKLYN'S FINEST opened to an estimated $4.7 million. The Antoine Fuqua film starring Don Cheadle, Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes had to contend with a very distant second place.

Stay tuned for a more comprehensive wrap-up of the weekend box office in North America for 5-7 March 2010.

The Top 10 at the North American box office took in an estimated total of $61.5 million for the whole of Friday 5th March 2010.
