It
was a case of one film dominating with the rest picking up the scraps
on Friday.
Tim
Burton's off beat ALICE IN WONDERLAND exploded on its first day of
release on Friday, earning an estimated $41 million as it took over
3D cinemas. Although reviews are mixed, Burton's track record for
delivering these types of well known fantasies via his unique vision
keeps paying off, with Alice exceeding expectations.
Another
new film opened on Friday although you may have missed it in the wake
of ALICE IN WONDERLAND; BROOKLYN'S FINEST opened to an estimated $4.7
million. The Antoine Fuqua film starring Don Cheadle, Richard Gere,
Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes had to contend with a very distant second
place.
