Despite
a wad of new films coming in to the Top 10, Tim Burton's ALICE IN
WONDERLAND still dominated top spot by a clear margin, earning an
estimated $17.4 million and leaving the remaining films in its wake.
The film has earned a solid $164 million domestically, but it did
drop 57% on last Friday, which indicates that the lukewarm word of
mouth may have kicked in.
The
re-teaming of director Paul Greengrass with star Matt Damon has produced
a modest result in GREEN ZONE, which earned an estimated $5 million
on Friday. This would be disappointing, if not entirely unexpected
given the Iraq-war theme of the movie.
An
attempt to cash in on Robert Pattison's vampire fame has resulted
in the modest $3.6 million opening for REMEMBER ME. There is absolutely
nothing to recommend about this film except that it is a blatant attempt
to cash in on the star's supposed firepower (which doesn't appear
to have worked too well).
The
other new opener for Friday is SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE which only managed
an estimated $3.3 million. The rom-com is likely to be forgotten quickly.
Stay
tuned for a more comprehensive wrap-up of the weekend box office in
North America for 12-14 March 2010.
The
Top 10 at the North American box office took in an estimated total
of $39.6 million for the whole of Friday 12th March 2010.
