Overall, the US Box Office was down 9.5% on last weekend's gross.

A small surprise popped up this weekend in that INCEPTION held strong enough to take out top spot for a second weekend. The film earned a fantastic $42.7 million, and dropped only 32% on its opening weekend, an unheard of drop for a blockbuster. The film has galvanised audiences and generated discussion over its numerous intracacies, so look for this film to hang around for some time to come. The film has now earned $142.8 million against a $160 million budget.

Having to settle for second place is Angelina Jolie's latest action thriller SALT, which despite some interesting trailers and marketing, underwhelmed on opening this weekend, earning $36 million. This is well below Jolie's last big action film WANTED which opened to $50.9 million in June 2008. SALT cost $110 million and will need to work somewhat to recoup that budget.

DESPICABLE ME can now be considered a strong hit, earning $23.6 million in its third weekend and only dropping 28% from last weekend. The film has earned $161.2 million against a $69 million budget. The film continues to resonate well with audiences and should continue to pull in good numbers.

The other new opener for the weekend is RAMONA AND BEEZUS, which earned only $7.4 million and finished in sixth place. This is not too bad a result considering the film only cost $15 million.

The Top 12 at the US Box Office took in a total of $155,046,153 for the whole of the weekend 23-25 July 2010.
