The Reason Why I Love Movies!

I'm a big movie buff and I personally have over 200 movies in my collection from all different genres-Horror Comedy, Drama, Action, Suspense, Sci-fi, Westerns and even children's movies. I especially like quoting movies on a daily basis. Movies to me are another form of expression and they can captivate all of your emotions. My favorite movie of all time is Titanic. This movie had everything-action, romance, adventure and unfortunately tragedy. This movie touched my soul like no other!! There are so many great movies out there that you can't get tired watching them.

Motion picture films have been part of our lives for many, many years. From G-rated Disney movies to NC-17 horror flicks, countless movies come out every year to entertain us and touch our souls. Those of us who appreciate the personal time and money it takes to make a film; from actors, directors, camera crews, special-effects team, orchestras and many more, can label ourselves movie buffs. We tend to go for the pink colored questions while playing Trivial Pursuit. Quoting lines in everyday conversations is second nature to us. Playing six-degrees to Kevin Bacon is a cakewalk! Watching and listening to every detail that comes out of the big screen is as easy as breathing.

It started for me in 1979. I was nine years old, and I don't remember going to the movies prior to that. Besides playing with my Stretch Armstrong and riding my Huffy bike, I got my "entertainment" from watching PBS on television, growing up in Connecticut. Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and Electric Company were a few favorites I used to watch. The Muppet Show was a huge hit in our house. it came on every night at 7:30. So when the made the movie, I asked my Mom to take me. After intensive begging she finally gave in and took not only me but my best friend at the time, Luis. I remember we sat pretty close to the screen. From the opening credits to the sign of THE END, I was completely in awe! Every song they sang lifted my young spirit and the movie took my mind to a place that it had never been before. My favorite part of the movie was when Kermit the Frog was sitting on the log and sang with a banjo in his hand. I knew right their and then I love this thing called "the movies".

When we went home after experiencing the best feeling I'd ever felt, my friend's mother told us that the music of the film was available on a record - you know that black, plastic, round, thing with grooves - for those of us who are post-cassettes. She told me it was called a soundtrack. You mean I can relive the music of my then favorite movie over and over again? Sure enough I got a hold of that album and played it non-stop on my Hi-Fi record player...you know the one where you had a nickel taped on top of the needle so the record wouldn't skip! Of course, like everything else, the excitement faded away. I don't even remember what happen to the album. Trashed, would be my best guess.
